Why write on mandarin peels? Why the fuck not?? πŸ˜‚ I've found over these past two years that I've gotta keep a sense of curiosity and play around my work or else it all starts to feel heavy and dull. Which is the opposite of fun times, yo πŸ˜† --- ALSO - have you guys heard of the app AntiCrop?? Dude, it's gonna blow your mind! You can expand your photo size and it magically fills in the background for you!! 😱 Scroll to see the original of this photo and how AntiCrop filled in the wood background seamlessly. Guys, I tell ya, we're living in the future. 😲 #magic --- UPDATE: Apparently the AntiCrop app isn't available if you've upgraded your iPhone to iOS 11... something to do with the App Store moving to 64-bit so older apps no longer work until they've been updated by the developer. So that sucks.... πŸ˜•

I've seen this ink on other feeds and thought it can't be that cool in real life..... well guess what? It's the most mesmerizing fuckin' magical ink in the world 😍 Windsor & Newton Drawing Ink in gold #winsorandnewton

Ever wish you could just hit "REFRESH" and start the day/week/meeting/whatever over again with a new attitude? πŸ™‹πŸ» I've been so grumpy this week dealing with my financials and taxes. One aspect of small business that definitely ain't glamorous πŸ˜•But that shit's gotta get done... maybe listening to J.Lo and BeyoncΓ© while doing it will help πŸ˜† --- 🎬 In this video, I included the little parts you don't usually see, like dipping into ink and wiping off your nib afterwards. One follower commented that no one shows that stuff and it's true! πŸ‘‰I always scrape the curved side of my nib against the edge of the ink jar to remove excess ink - leaves me with the perfect amount on the nib to write! And when I'm done, I swish my nib in water and wipe with a paper towel. πŸ‘ --- COMMENT "YES!" if these kinds of tips are helpful and I'll do more of them πŸ™Œ --- INK: Dr Ph Martins Bleedproof White NIB: Brause Steno PAPER: 65lb Neenah card stock

These agate place cards took me way longer than they should have because I wanted to hold every single one up to the light and inspect all the gorgeous organic goodness going on inside. 😍 Sometimes I'm feeling snarky and sometimes I just want to appreciate the beauty that I get to work with some days. Hope there's a little glimmer of beauty in your day today! ✨

Well, for the 80% of you who voted YES in my InstaStories - you were absolutely fuckin right!! Turns out you can write with a pointed pen on orange peels... sort of πŸ˜… --- The first part of this video is at original speed so you can see how slow and careful and light your nib needs to be. If you poke into the peel at all, it releases orange oils that interfere with nib flow. 🍊I sped up the part where I fill in the downstrokes faux-calligraphy style πŸ‘ --- I'm thinking of doing more crazy playful experiments like this - maybe call them #CrayCalligraphy πŸ˜‚ Whaddya think? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ --- NIB: Brause Steno (aka Blue Pumpkin) INK: Bleedproof White

Hey! πŸ™‹πŸ» I need some help deciding...Which invite suite would you like to receive? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ The first one's a little more flowy and loosey-goosey and the second ones a bit more structured and elegant. Swipe to see the options! πŸ‘ˆπŸ‘‰

Here's a cool little color play inspired by the always creative @minortismay 😍 You can see in the second clip how the blue becomes more visible in the "S" after its sat for few seconds - so cool. πŸ˜ƒGotta experiment with different colors to get a more vibrant marbling effect, so that's a fun thing to add to my to-do list πŸ˜† --- INK: Gouache mixed with water NIB: Leonardt Steno πŸ‘ --- Also, THANK YOU πŸ€— to all of you who commented in my last post. Looks like the overwhelming preference is for more thoughtful, value-packed posts - even if they're less frequent than a strict daily schedule. You guys are so amazing for giving me the space to play and search for inspiration! 😘

Fancy flourishing is on my list of things I wanna improve this year. And I might as well have fun while practicing right? πŸ˜‚ --- Swipe πŸ‘ˆto see how I'm studying this flourishing stuff. I make an attempt, then look at it critically and make specific notes about how I can improve it. Then, I sketch a better version out in pencil. πŸ‘ --- Final thought - I'm starting to be more loose and flexible with my Insta feed. πŸ€”Normally, I would have just posted the video on its own so I could get something in front of you by my arbitrary morning deadline. But, I thought it would add way more value if I took some more time to really develop this post and add the critique and sketch photos. πŸ‘‡ --- So WHAT DO YOU PREFER? Seeing posts regularly at the same time every day? Or more intermittent, but more thoughtful posts? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Speaking of writing on different surfaces, I did this for a client a little while back - pointed pen on a painted acrylic canvas! I didn't even know it was possible until I gave it a try πŸ˜… As long as the painted surface is smooth and not too textured, my trusty Leonardt Steno + Bleedproof White worked wonderfully! What's the most unusual thing you've written on? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

One question I get asked a lot is what nib and ink do you use? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Honestly... depends what I'm writing on! For paper with a slightly slick coating like this, I like the Leonardt Steno with a thicker acrylic ink (Dr Ph Martins Coperplate Gold or Bleedproof White are my favorites). πŸ’• For regular paper, I use my Nikko G with a thinner gouache ink so I can mix up custom colors. 🌈 --- Half the fun of calligraphy is buying new stuff to experiment with, but if you need a place to start, check out the "Calligraphy Supplies" page on my website to get a list of all my favorite supplies! πŸ™ŒπŸ˜

Trying to change my world, one thought at a time. Whenever I catch myself with those old grumpy thoughts, worrying endlessly and anxiously about my life, I try to replace them with grateful thoughts instead. It ain't easy - those old thought pathways are worn pretty deep. But I'm slowly rocking myself out of that rut, one day at a time. πŸ˜„ Anyone else trying to change the way they think about things? Have you found anything that helps with the process? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Happy 2018 everyone!! Make sure to watch 'til the end πŸ˜ƒ --- How long will YOU still be writing 2017 on everything? πŸ˜‚ Also, raise your hand if you wish calligraphy were this easy to erase and redo!! πŸ™‹πŸ»
