Meet Meg Remien founder of Raven & Crow; an eco friendly bamboo + organic cotton PJs and lounge-wear brand with a keen sense of style, fit and comfort.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started Raven & Crow after I broke my spine in a skiing accident. During my recovery, I found that most things in my closet were the wrong fit, material or too uncomfortable to be in all day. So I designed what I thought would work and then found bamboo fabric. I fell in love with the soft material and the fact that bamboo is eco-friendly.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE BRAND NAME?
Raven & Crow is a meaningful name for my brand. These birds are very family oriented. When I broke my spine I was surrounded by my supportive family who gave me strength and encouragement to recover. These are also birds of wisdom. I feel that through our struggles we learn the most about ourselves and what we are capable of.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST HURDLE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET STARTED?
I had absolutely no background in fashion when I started Raven & Crow. Even though it was tough to figure out how to begin I am very lucky that I have a lot of friends in the industry who held my hand the whole way through.
It was a couple of months between the idea to the first prototype. Once I met the right people who could really make things happen it was pretty quick from there.
I found the bamboo at one of the first fabric sources I met with. I immediately gravitated towards it which was an unexpected surprise. I knew I wanted to go organic but I really didn’t know much about bamboo until I found this blend. Now I’m all about researching sustainability. The more we can do regarding the well-being of the planet, the better!
WHAT WAS THAT “JUST DO IT” MOMENT FOR YOU TO GET STARTED?
I think my “just do it” moment was just feeling a real need for a product that didn’t yet exist. I believe in this product and I absolutely love what I do.
