Mompreneurship can be hard. Jakki Wong makes it look easy.
Wee Monster is a kids wear brand with a spunky spin on it. Rather than fuss around with flowers and sparkles or the traditional blues and pinks — The mantra behind Wee Monster is about celebrating the idea: “Kids should be kids.”
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
My babies started it all. I can’t stand cutesy clothes off the rack. I needed to add that extra swag into their lives without the itchy tags.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE BRAND NAME?
Again, my kids inspire everything behind Wee Monster. My kids are monsters, so I thought through the idea of little monsters or wee monsters. The name seemed to stick to something bigger. Wee Monster is a lifestyle–not just a brand. It celebrates kids in their natural, craziest state and loving every moment of it.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST HURDLE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET STARTED?
Quitting my 9-5. I knew that I had to be 100% into it before Wee Monster could really launch. I struggled to find the stability and time to start creating and designing each piece.
WHAT WAS THAT “JUST DO IT” MOMENT FOR YOU TO GET STARTED?
I was starting to feel really stuck and limited by my corporate job. I didn’t have the freedom to express my passion for art and design. When you’re a small business owner, you get all the creative freedom to do what you think is best and right.
