You never know where ‘possibilities’ will present itself. Liz Coyles & Trish Baden met via craigslist and now are one of the hardest working entrepreneurs anywhere.
You can often find them toiling away at the ‘Lab’ giving meaning to #bossbabes
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
My business partner Trish and I met on Craigslist with the intention of becoming short term roommates. On one of the first nights I moved in Trish taught me how to make candles because she had recently taken a class and taken it up as a hobby. Three weeks later we started our Etsy shop and Flores Lane was born.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE BRAND NAME?
Flores is the name of our street. I know that sounds incredibly lame at first, but the truth is we have both always had a great vision for our brand and we never wanted to forget where we started. We are so much more than candles. We want to help support local artists in pursuing their passions and as a survive of lyme disease, Trish is passionate about making a difference in that community.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST HURDLE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET STARTED?
There have definitely been a lot of hurdles! Neither of us have ever run a business before so each time we progress and grow it’s a new and unfamiliar territory. I think that’s what we both love about what we do though. We are constantly learning, problem solving, working together and growing.
WHAT WAS THAT “JUST DO IT” MOMENT FOR YOU TO GET STARTED?
Our business has grown very organically. We started on Etsy, then began doing various markets around LA and coming into 2016 we decided to focus on retail and hosting workshops in the community. Starting the Etsy shop, we both felt like we didn’t have much to lose so we went for it. You really do just have to go for it. As the momentum started to pick up we both sort of looked at each other and went ” okay, we are really doing this”. There have definitely been some big risks involved along the way but we’re in it together and those moments make the reward that much sweeter.
