maker of kinetic sculptures/mobiles & wall pieces - big on gratitude - a portion of sales given to those in need - tiny home life @creativehabitation
These windows and this workbench served me so well for the 4 years I was able to work in this space. My creativity bloomed, as I spent time working — pushing myself to dive in and give the hours it needed.
We are now onto a new season— those windows and light will now inspire another. That workbench now belongs to some dear friends.
I’m exited to see the beauty that comes from within those walls and the magic that is created on that surface.
1. Thank you for the sweet response to my family’s new adventure in tiny home living! We just finished painting the motorhome interior and now we’re onto flooring. I’m hoping to update @creativehabitation soon!
2. There are just a few pieces left from the shop update. It was so rad to see which pieces spoke to people.
I’m extremely grateful that what I make resonates with you!
Note: my email list gets first dibs on shop reloads — if you’d like to be on it, you can sign up via my website.
This season of growing and creating in our downtown Sacramento loft is coming to a close, to venture into some tiny home living!
We’re renovating a 35 foot motorhome to be our home base! We’ll be living on some property in the foothills, experiencing a different existence, as we save money to buy property of our own in our beloved Sacramento.
Our time at @rstreetwal (4 years!) has come to a close and we’re ready for a creative and resourceful existence of living differently than we ever have. The closest thing to this we’ve experienced is bringing our daughter home to our tiny one bedroom apartment - she slept in an open closet space! We lived there for a couple of years and that season of small-living holds some of our favorite memories.
In this next few weeks we will be renovating our home on wheels and will try to share that journey with you. You can follow that here: @creativehabitation
After that we will be living up there while still working out of the Hacker Lab, a maker space in downtown Sacramento, whilst still being a part of our beloved city through the relationships we’ve built and our sweet faith community, @societychurch.
It’s definitely going to be a different season of life, but we’re armed with gratitude and some creativity. My little family is stoked and we’re up for the challenge!
Science, and the way our natural world works, is rad. You see that charcoal-colored arch shape? That is copper that’s been patenaed with a substance called liver of sulfur. You dip the copper piece in and the reaction is instant as the color of the copper changes, darkening as the metal sits in the bath. I’ve loved including these components in my work, adding a little more contrast to the composition of brass shapes.
This stuff lights me up. I love working with this medium!
Shop update next week.
So much newness is happening over here, that’s only developed in the last couple of months — it will all be coming to fruition soon!
Looking forward to telling you about it!
In the meantime, I’m trying to keep my head down & work on new pieces. Shop restock soon ✨
From us to you,
all the love! ❤️
Cannot wait to visit this gorgeous stockist of mine one day! @nikau.store, you’re a beaut 🥰
This piece was snatched up quick last week. Thank you for selling this girl completely out!
Note: I will be doing another shop update after the holidays. You can sign up for my mailing list via my website if you’re interested in getting first dibs.
I love using these hands of mine to make, so the fact that it resonates with you enough to spend your hard earned money is pure gold to me. T H A N K Y O U ❤️
Can’t believe it. 29 pieces went up for the shop update yesterday and 3 are left.
I feel the love and I’m grateful! T H A N K Y O U.
It’s always interesting seeing what pieces go first. I love watching it unfold — “oh! That one was snatched first! Cool.” I get such a kick out of it.
I love them all —I wouldn’t put them out into the world if that weren’t so— but there are ones, like the above, that feel like magic because they came together so sweetly.
I need a little more time to prepare for this big shop update. Was planning on today, but I need a smidge more time! It’s going to be a big one.
Mailing list friends, expect an email Thursday. 😘
Cracked hands, full heart.
L E S S O N S L E A R N E D :
Running your own creative business in this Instagram age can look as if making for a living is always sexy, always fulfilling, and done with ease.
And a good chunk of the time it is. I think makers and creative business owners wouldn’t be doing what they do if it weren’t rewarding and so sweet to use your brain & hands to birth something into the world.
But, what I want to highlight is that my creative business isn’t without grit, determination and a bit of sacrifice (worthy-sacrifice).
In order to finish a large order this week, there were two days that I didn’t sleep for a whole 24 hours. I saw the sun rise twice, as I was sanding or coating or piecing the work together. There was work to be done, with a lack of time, and if I didn’t do it, it simply wouldn’t get done.
—Hard work and determination are how things get done. It’s not a magical recipe. You just gotta do the work ...what I’ve found is that doing it with minimal complaining & loads of gratitude is key. Working on it.
My prayer this week:
“Thank you for these hands and this heart.” —Now, time to sleep.
