@mienstudios : { Monday MAMA FEATURE }
When I met Rebekkah @all_our_wonder, she looked like a mom who has it all together. Our sons are very close in age and they can be very rambunctious. She’s a mom but also a full-time student who works during the week and handles her photography business on the weekends. She’s also a musician and singer on top of everything else. I ask her how she is able to continue her pursuits of her passions and maintain her self identity while being a new Mom. Her response was honest and I think a sentiment of many moms… It’s not possible to be everything and do it all. She asks for help when she needs it, doesn’t strive for perfection and takes each little setback as a learning experience instead. Here are heartfelt words from Rebekkah –
“I found out I was pregnant when I was 23 years old. I was young and restless, always anxious about my future, and unsure about the kind of mother I would become. 3 years have passed since then and I can say with sincerity that I have grown in insurmountable ways. Every single day is a challenge and a struggle. Every mistake I’ve made has been a learning opportunity, and each week is filled with a range of emotions: joy, laughter, guilt, frustration, pride, love, humility. I now rely on a community of mothers who share in these same experiences – without them, I’d feel alone and isolated.
I get a lot of questions from people who ask me how I’m able to handle several jobs, full-time school, and my photography business. Truth is, I have a lot of help and I rely on my husband and my family more than I probably should. And yet still im always tired, I fall behind on my work, I procrastinate, and I’m usually running late to wherever I have to go. The dirty dishes and laundry never cease to pile up and sometimes I forget to put shoes on my son when we go out. I may not be a perfect mom, but I know in my heart that I don’t need to strive for perfection. I just need to remind myself that everything I do and every decision I make is for my little family. No matter how hard it gets, I’m proud to be a mother and I wouldn’t trade this life for another.”
