How did you get started?

“I’ve always been pretty crafty all my life. I would be inspired by many things and be compelled to somehow bring my ideas to life.”

What is the inspiration for the brand name?

“The name M.A.L.A is actually an acronym for my name: Marcia Alexandra Lozano Accessories. The word MALA also means bad girl in spanish, which is the direction I was going for. My stuff is very quirky with a dark aspect as well.”

What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome to get started?

“..With a full time job, it was a struggle dedicating time to my small business. But, I learned to balance my time to grow my business.”

What was that “Just Do It” moment for you to get started?

“When I taught myself to use Illustrator and was able to mock up my designs is when I decided to take my business to the next level. Seeing my designs go from a sketch to a physical item is the coolest feeling ever.”
